Power
There are numerous types of forklifts that are powered by propane gas. Forklifts which use propane are simple to refill. The gas is stored in a pressurized tank on the truck's back. The propane is pushed into the engine, where it is converted into vapor and afterward the vapor mixes with air. The throttle of the forklift is utilized to control the vapor flow. A spark plug ignites the vapor and air mixture producing pressure that moves the pistons. The pistons power the hydraulic pump and turn the wheels.

Propane powered forklifts are suggested for use within other buildings and warehouses because they are clean burning with low emissions.

Hydraulics
The forklift's hydraulic system is what allows it to lift and transport very heavy things from place to place. Cylinders, a pump and tubes make up the hydraulic system. The pump forces dense fluid in the tubing and into the cylinders. The build up of pressure pushes a piston, that raises the forks. When the operator lowers the forks, the hydraulic fluid flows out of the cylinders and back in the pump.

Steering
Propane forklifts work well where maneuverability is necessary. Unlike an automobile, a forklift utilizes its rear wheels to pivot, that enables the forklift to turn quickly on a tight radius.
